Huisken Meat Company a MNSHARP worksite, recognized May 12

Workplace safety and health representatives from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) recognized Huisken Meat Company for its achievement as a Minnesota Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (MNSHARP) worksite at Governor Tim Pawlenty’s Safety Award Luncheon, in conjunction with the Minnesota Safety Council’s Safety and Health Conference, May 12th at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

MNSHARP is a Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MNOSHA) program that recognizes companies where managers and employees work together to develop safety and health
2006 MNSHARP programs that go beyond basic compliance with all applicable OSHA standards and result in immediate and long-term prevention of job-related injuries and illnesses. DLI Commissioner Scott Brener (shown on the left) presented the award to Cliff Albertson, Huisken Meats GM/COO.

"Huisken Meat Company is again recognized as one of the state's best worksites for safety and health," said Brener. "We are excited to reward them for the second year in a row for an outstanding effort to reduce on-the-job injuries and illnesses."

To achieve MNSHARP status, Huisken Meat Company worked with MNOSHA Workplace Safety Consultation to assemble a comprehensive safety and health program that includes: management leadership and employee involvement; an allocation of resources to address safety issues; systems that identify and control workplace hazards; and a plan for employee safety training and education.

"I am proud of our employees and, especially, our safety committee, headed by Safety Director Neil Bueckers. Neil, his committee and all the employees earned this recognition for their dedication to maintaining a safe work environment," Albertson said. “We are especially proud of being able to plan a company celebration to commemorate 18 months with no lost time due to accident or injury."

Since 1938, Huisken Meat Company, a JNR Corporation company, has worked to bring the highest quality meats to the dinner table. It produces high-quality frozen beef burgers for home consumers as Huisken and RG's brands, as well as store-brand labels for some of the largest grocery distributors in the country.

Commissioner Brener presented a MNSHARP certificate that exempts the company from MNOSHA Compliance scheduled inspections for one year.

MNSHARP began in Minnesota in 1996. Huisken Meat Company is one of 22 active MNSHARP worksites in Minnesota. For more information about MNSHARP, visit www.doli.state.mn.us/mnsharp.html.
